Midwest sets stage for US semiconductor leadership
American manufacturing is back! Intel just announced one of the largest domestic investments in our history, committing more than $20 billion to create a new semiconductor technology manufacturing center in Licking County, Ohio. Intel’s new site will house two leading-edge chip factories and will attract many other companies to build there too, creating a regional economic cluster for modern high-tech manufacturing. In addition to generating thousands of jobs and billions of dollars in economic impact for the region, Intel’s Ohio site is an important step toward returning the U.S. to its preeminent role in semiconductor manufacturing. We appreciate the leadership and vision Ohio’s leaders have shown, and we urge the U.S. Congress to follow suit with additional investment to restore America’s chipmaking capability.
